The following awards are offered at Goldey-Beacom College every year: Academic Achievement Awards are presented to Associate and Bachelor degree graduates who have achieved the highest cumulative grade point average above 3.5 in their respective programs as of the last semester/session completed prior to the spring semester when graduation is held. Community Service Award is presented each spring during the Honors Day program to an organization of the College based upon its contributions to the community. Computer Information Systems Outstanding Graduate Award is awarded to a student graduating with an Associate in Science or Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems who has earned a minimum cumulative average of 3.00 in recognition of commitment to professional development, both in and out of the classroom, active participation in professional organizations, work in the field of study and computer related work for the College. Jane E. DeGrange Award is presented by the Student Government to a graduating senior with a minimum cumulative average of 2.00 in recognition of exceptional college dedication, spirit, involvement in extracurricular programs, self motivation, ambition, and innovation. William A. Franta Excellence in Speaking Award is given to a student who demonstrates outstanding speaking ability through voice quality, articulation, pronunciation, enthusiasm, poise, maturity, organization, command of subject, and argumentation skills. Dr. Clarence A. Fulmer Leadership Award is presented to a full-time graduating student with a Bachelor of Science degree in recognition of outstanding leadership and accomplishment in any college-related endeavor. Alan M. Kay Excellence in Liberal Arts Award is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the liberal arts areas of history, humanities, literature, philosophy, political science, psychology and sociology. Kiwanis' A. Raymond Jackson Award is presented to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and an equally strong commitment to their academic program. Peter A. Larson Award in International Business is granted to a full-time or part-time student who exhibits an extraordinary interest in international business and who has contributed to a greater international understanding either within the the College community itself or within the greater business community through a publication, speech, or some other extracurricular activity. William Cleaver Lewis Memorial Award is granted by the Alumni Association to a full-time student who has earned a minimum cumulative average of 2.00 in recognition of outstanding performance in one or more services for the betterment of the College community. Jay W. Miller Memorial Award is granted to a student graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in recognition of personal growth, scholarship, maturity, service to the College, evidence of good citizenship, humility, and initiative. The Don Nelson Debater of the Year Award is given to a student for outstanding performance in a classroom debate. The award is also based on validity of data, organization, and analysis and presentation in the cross-examination, constructive, rebuttal sections of the debate. The Robert J. Perrone Award is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the Baccalaureate degree program in Accounting who has earned a minimum cumulative index of 3.50 and who has demonstrated an interest in a career in public accounting, who has shown leadership qualities, both in and out of the classroom, and who has maintained active participation and membership in student organizations. William E. Poole Excellence in Writing Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated overall writing excellence in terms of content, creativity, style, maturity of expression, awareness of purpose and audience, organization and correctness. The George A. Thompson Memorial Award this $200 award is given annually in memory of George A. Thompson by his family, to a Bachelor degree student entering his/her junior or senior year anticipating a career in retailing, marketing, or merchandising. The recipient must demonstrate scholarship, initiative, and leadership in the College community, and potential for success as a business leader. Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Awards are presented to students selected from campus nominating committees as being among the country's most outstanding campus leaders. This honor is based on the students' academic achievement, service to the College community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and future potential. |
