gbcALERT Notifications

When trouble strikes, a quick response in alerting students, faculty, and staff can be vital.  The College contracts with Rave Mobile Safety to provide gbcALERT, a text-messaging program for both emergency notifications and updates through text messaging and email.  All faculty, staff, and students are automatically enrolled with their GBC email addresses.  Everyone is encouraged to login to the Rave Mobile Safety site to confirm the contact information and add a cell phone to receive the alerts via text messages as well.  The system allows for three email address (one being the GBC email address) and three cell phone numbers.  Standard text messaging fees may be charged by your service provider when you sign up for the text messaging service.

Rave Mobile Safety is aimed at improving safety on campus and enables Goldey-Beacom College to provide a rapid delivery of messages via text messaging and email.  With one text message or email, everyone who is registered can be notified about a campus emergency, weather cancellations or delays, campus happenings, etc.

Users of gbcALERT can manage their own accounts via the link provided in the left menu, 'Login to Your Account', and make updates to their device, contact information, alert categories, or to opt out of the system.  Users should also remember to update their information should they purchase a new cell phone with a different carrier/number or change their email address.

The alert system sends notifications instantly and simultaneously to users about:

• Emergency conditions on or around campus
• Weather cancellations and delays

as well as other optional notifications including:

• Activities/Event for the Week
• IT Notifications
• Reminders for Important Deadlines, e.g. payment due dates, registration information, financial aid deadlines

Users, please note:

• This service is completely voluntary (except to the GBC Email) and you can opt out at any time .
• You will need to register for the services other than the GBC Email.
• You are responsible for messaging charges from your wireless service provider(s).
• Emergency and weather messages are automatic. You will not receive messages for other groups which you did not register. 
• No advertising messages will be sent using this system.
• Your information is not shared with nor sold to third parties.
