Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there a charge for this service?

    • The service subscriptions are free, but individual's cell phone plans may charge for receipt of text messages.  GBC does not send out advertisements via this service.

  • What is my GBC NetID?

    • The GBC NetID is your GBC Network Account which you use for GBC email, Campus Web, etc.

  • How do I sign up for gbcALERT?

    • All students, faculty, and staff are automatically signed up with the GBC email address.  Login to the Rave Mobile Safety site at https://www.getrave.com/login/gbc/ to add additional contact information such as cell phones and other email addresses.  A request for validation is sent to the cell phone and is completed by entering a code sent to the phone via a text message. Emails are validated by clicking a link contained in the confirmation email.

  • How do I opt out (remove myself) from receiving the alerts and updates?

    • Alerts will automatically be sent to the GBC email.  To change other contact information, including cell phone numbers, please login to your account to opt-out of alerts and/or updates from the College. You may opt-out of one particular group or the entire service for any contact other than the GBC email. 

  • What exactly is Rave Mobile Safety?

    • Rave Mobile Safety is a notification system that allows designated administrators to send time-sensitive messages to the cell phones and email of their subscribers (students, faculty, and staff). In the event of an emergency, subscribers can be notified immediately of the situation, wherever they are geographically.

  • Can I change my contact preferences?

    • Yes. You can login to your account to change your account settings and add more email addresses or phone numbers.

  • Do I need to install software and/or hardware in order to use gbcALERT?

    • No. Rave Mobile Safety is a 100% web-based software system, so you do not need any additional software or hardware. All you need is a web browser with an Internet connection and you are up and running!  You can look at Rave Mobile Safety as a Public Safety "Utility" - always on and ready for action.

  • Will I receive unsolicited messages ("spam") on my cell phone?

    • No. Rave Mobile Safety enforces a zero spam policy which clearly prohibits unsolicited messages, and Rave does not sell the contact information of our subscribers to third party marketers.

  • How do I control how I receive notifications?

    • You are given an opportunity to choose whether you want to receive notifications via cell phone text message or by email.  You can also specify three contact cell phone numbers and two additional email addresses.  All enrollees will receive the Emergency and Weather Alerts.   You will be able to select any additional categories of notifications you wish to receive.

  • What is the actual registration process?

    • Click here for text messages:

        Make sure you have your cell phone accessible.
        Go to the link provided in the left menu to 'Login to Your Account'.
        (Your GBC NetID and password is the same as your GBC email username and password.)
        If you do not have any existing mobile contacts, click the 'Register Phone' link in the pink box.
        Otherwise, update or add to the existing contact information listed under 'Mobile Contacts.'
        Once you receive the confirmation text message on your cell, enter the confirmation code, and complete your registration.
        Once you have completed the registration by entering the confirmation code, the mobile contact will be 'confirmed'.
        Be sure to go back and update the information anytime you have a new cell phone or new carrier.

    • Click here for email only:

        Click the link provided in the left menu to 'Login to Your Account'.
        (Your GBC NetID and password is the same as your GBC email username and password.)
        Click the link to add, test, or edit your Email Contacts.
        Complete the information required.
        Test each contact you have added to confirm the email address.

        Be sure to go back and update the information anytime you have a change in your email address.
