WILMINGTON, DE (March 22, 2005) – The Goldey-Beacom College softball team swept a pair of non-conference games from Millersville University Tuesday afternoon, winning game one 2-1 and game two 2-0 at the GBC Softball Complex in Wilmington.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh of game one, senior Tiffany Frick (Pennsauken, NJ) doubled home freshman Kendra Russell (New Castle, DE) to tie the game at one. Following two fielding errors by Millersville that should have ended the inning, freshman Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Frick and give the Lightning the win, snapping a five-game losing skid.

Frick picked up her second win of the season, allowing six hits and one run in seven innings of work. Jess Conada suffered the loss for the Marauders (7-10), allowing seven hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five in 6.2 innings of work.

In game two, the Lightning scored the only run they would need in the third inning. Following a walk to sophomore Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA), senior Devon O’Brien (Wilmington, DE) sacrificed her to second base before freshman Jillian Murphy (Wilmington, DE) plated her with a single to left field. They tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE) singled home Harper.

Russell earned her second win of the season in game two, hurling seven shutout innings while striking out five. Maureen Goldhorn took the loss, allowing six hits and two runs in six innings of work.
