PHILADELPHIA, PA (April 16, 2005) – Senior Holly Kimble (Millsboro, DE) and junior Lori Knabb (Paulsboro, NJ) combined for seven RBI as the Goldey-Beacom College softball team swept a doubleheader from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, winning game one 6-5 and game two 9-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon at McNeill Field in Philadelphia.

The Lightning (13-11, 5-3 CACC) extended their win streak to six games and have now won seven of their last nine games overall. The Devils, meanwhile, fell to 6-23 with the losses (1-11 CACC).

After falling behind 1-0 in game one following an RBI single by Megan Trimble, the Lightning struck back for three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. After senior Tiffany Frick (Wilmington, DE) and freshman Megan Harper (Atco, NJ) scored on an error to give GBC a 2-1 lead, Knabb doubled to left field to score freshman Bridget Mount (Levittown, PA) and make it 3-1.

The Devils struck back for a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Harper doubled home senior Devon O’Brien (Wilmington, DE) and Kimble singled home Harper in the top of the fifth to push the Lightning lead to 5-3. Goldey-Beacom added a run in the top of the sixth Harper plated freshman Sarah Gehman (King of Prussia, PA) to make it 6-2. The Devils rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh but junior Brandi Ash (Dagsboro, DE) settled down and closed out the win, earning her first save of the season.

Senior Tiffany Frick (Wilmington, DE) evened her record at 6-6 on the season with the win, allowing 10 hits and five runs (two earned) in 6.0 innings of work, striking out two. Katie Campoli took the loss for USP, allowing seven hits and five runs (one earned) in 4.1 IP, striking out three.

In the nightcap, the Lightning scored four runs in each of the first two innings to build an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Kimble finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored while Russell went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and Knabb went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Russell allowed just six hits and one earned run while striking out seven in six innings of work to earn her seventh win of the season. USP’s Carolynn Snavely walked six batters in the first innings and allowed five runs (three earned) despite not allowing a hit as her record fell to 2-2.

The Lightning return to action Sunday afternoon when they host Molloy College at the GBC Softball Complex at 1 p.m.
