Databases

Students, Faculty and Staff can access a wide range of information in a variety of automated database systems listed below with links. Come to the front desk of the library to obtain the usernames and passwords. (GBC ID with current semester sticker required.) Students may also check the Library tab on Campus Web for passwords, or call the library at (302) 225-6247 for special assistance if they are not able to come to the library in person. Please include your student ID with all password requests.

Academic OneFile

Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed (scholarly) full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of all academic disciplines, Academic OneFile is authoritative and comprehensive resource concerning business.
Academic Search Complete (EBSCO) Academic Search Complete is a comprehensive multidisciplinary database with subject coverage of astronomy, biology, business, chemistry, engineering, ethnic and multicultural studies, food and science technology, law, mathematics, music, psychology, religion and theology. Business, Criminal Justice and Psychology majors will discover news as well as scholarly and industry/ trade publication articles in full-text.
Ad*Access
(Duke University)
The Ad*Access Project, a digital library has primary source material, presents images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955. Ad*Access concentrates on five main subject areas: Radio, Television, Transportation, Beauty and Hygiene, and World War II, providing a coherent view of a number of major campaigns and companies through images.
BBC Country Profiles This site supplies information on the history, economy, and politics of countries and territories. Each profile includes an overview, map, facts, and current leaders. A media overview provides information on the press, television, radio, news agencies, and number of Internet users. Links provided on the side of the profile connect to the latest news and key stories, BBC links, background articles, related Internet sites and video and audio clips from the BBC archives. Additional features include timelines, recent news links, background articles, Internet sites, and BBC archive video and audio clips. Information on over 20 key international organizations is also included.

Business Source Complete (EBSCO) Business Source Complete is a premier database for scholarly and trade publication articles for all business majors. CareerOneStop CareerOneStop is a U.S. Department of Labor-sponsored portal that provides career resources and workforce information. With its occupation and industry information, salary data, self-assessment tools, and career exploration assistance, this rich resource will help those exploring career opportunities to make informed choices. It also has useful information for job seekers, students, and career counselors, such as locations of career centers, resume advice, and relocating options. This thorough site even has a special section devoted to military transition.

Analyze company performance and activity, industry events and trends as well as the latest in management, economics and politics. Access to a combination of broker research reports, trade publications, newspapers, journals and company directory listings with full text and images available.

A one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide range of topics: business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and many general interest topics. Millions of full-text articles, many with images. Updated daily.
GovTrack.us:  Tracking the U.S. Congress GovTrack, a non-governmental resource, is a tool for tracking the current activities and researching the United States Congress. It offers the status of U.S. federal legislation, voting records for the Senate and House of Representatives, information on Members of Congress, district maps, congressional committee memberships, and the text of the Congressional Record. Archival material dates only dates back to the 1990’s, however. For recent congressional history, it is an easy-to-use option.
Infotrac

Infotrac is an essential database for business majors.  It comprises all Gale products GBC subscribes to including Academic OneFile, Business Economics and Theory, Business and Company Resource, Computer Database, Expanded Academic ASAP, Gale Virtual Reference Library, General Business File ASAP, General OneFIle, PROMT, and Small Business Collection.  Look here to find scholarly articles, magazines, trade publications, and electronic reference books to help you begin your research.
Mergent Online Mergent Online consists of financial information on U.S. and international companies.  This database includes: U.S. and International Company Data, Company Financials and SEC Filings, Institutional Holdings, Insider Trades, Long-Term Debt and Equity Pricing.  Mergent Online also includes Country Profiles with basic data and brief Industry Reports. 
MetaLib MetaLib is a database run by the GPO, U.S. Government Printing Office. Look here to find U.S. government documents about business & economy, environment, politics & law, science & technology, agriculture, defense & military, health & safety, recreation, travel & transportation, education, and history. The GPO also provides an A-Z list with links to featured government databases including Federal Reserve Board: Reports to Congress, Data.gov, NARA, and Water Resources of the United States.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Organisation for Economic Co-operations and Development (OECD) is an excellent database for country specific statistics such as statistical profiles.  In addition, you can find working papers, country reviews, and books.  Please visit the library for help navigating the website.

Predicast Overview of Markets and Technology. Use this database to research companies, the products and technologies they produce, and the markets in which they compete.

Proquest Newspapers

Provides access to 29 newspapers from across the country including Seattle, New York, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Boston.  Retrieve current news on national and international topics.

PsycARTICLES
(EBSCO)

PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text articles from print journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber. The database can also be searched for articles of interest by browsing directly through the journal titles and then clicking to the tables of contents for the respective volumes and issues.

PsycINFO
(EBSCO)

Covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, social work, law, criminology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, and organizational behavior. The coverage is worldwide, and includes references and abstracts to nearly 2,000 journals in more than 20 languages, and to dissertations, technical reports, book chapters and books in the English language. Produced by the American Psychological Association.
Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) The Writing Lab at Purdue houses 200 free writing resources and instructional materials for students, teachers, and trainers. Included are formatting and style guides, grammar and mechanics, internet literacy, ESL, job search and technical writing, and research. There are sections geared to writing for specific disciplines (e.g. experimental report writing in psychology) and forms (e.g. writing about poetry). This site provides the nuts and bolts needed to jump start any writing project.
RIA Checkpoint The RIA Checkpoint Tax Database is intended to replace the print RIA Federal Tax Coordinator reference series in the Reference section of the library. RIA Checkpoint is a very specialized online database that will assist those students studying federal tax laws and statutes. It will not provide general information and would not be helpful to those preparing their taxes.
Safari Tech Books Online (Proquest) There are over 1,000 + reference books in Safari for your use. Use this database from home or on campus for all of your reference needs in accounting, business, communications, finance accounting, general human resources, international business globalization, leadership, operations, personal & professional development, project management, recruitment, six sigma, small business, supervision, and time management.

Small Business Collection

Perfect for business schools and entrepreneurs, this compilation provides insights, tips, strategies and success stories. Users will find over 280 subject-appropriate full-text periodicals.
SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCO) SocINDEX with Full Text is a great resource for Criminal Justice and Psychology majors. Subject coverage for this database includes: abortion, criminology, criminal justice, demography, ethnic & racial studies, gender studies, marriage & family, political sociology, religion, rural & urban sociology, social development, social psychology, sociology, substance abuse and violence.
The Supreme Court Databases This database, compiled by Washington University, includes information about Supreme Court decisions from 1953-2008. Clicking on the "Analysis" section allows users to search for a specific decision. This database is a "definitive source for researchers, students, journalists, and citizens interested in the U.S. Supreme Court." Examples of information about each case available include “the parties to the suit, the legal provisions considered in the case, and the votes of the Justices.” A Getting Started section is helpful to first-time database users.
U.S. Economy at a Glance For up-to-date statistics and easy access to U.S. economic information, this is a site to bookmark. Users can browse monthly unemployment rates and also track changes in payroll employment, average hourly earnings, and the consumer price index. Statistics are provided by month or quarter, and users can access back data as well. Besides national data, users can narrow results by state, region, or metro area. UNdata:  A world of information For international statistics on a broad range of topics, this is the place to go. A collection of statistics and data sets from nearly 30 United Nations databases, UNdata contains over 60 million records from various UN groups (UNESCO, UNHCR, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Health Organization). Users can use the keyword search, view country profiles, limit results to specific UN organizations, and explore popular topics (population, crime, health). Statistics are presented full-text and data is downloadable. Updated frequently, this source is helpful for librarians, researchers, and general users.
Wall Street Journal Historical

Provides access to news articles published in the Wall Street Journal from 1889 – 1993.
Wordnik:  All the Words Wordnik is much more than an interactive online dictionary of English. Beyond giving definitions (from the 2008 American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language and other sources), Wordnik provides example sentences showing words in context, information about words' frequency and use patterns, related words, and more. It allows users to contribute information, such as recorded pronunciations, tags, and suggestions for new words. Flickr images are used to illustrate some words. This is definitely a site for “anyone who wants to know more about a word than they can find out in a traditional dictionary.”
WorldTrade Ref Database WorldTrade Ref database is a one stop reference resource for business, commerce, trade information. It provides statistical information about American and world tariffs and taxes. Included within this database is a searchable U.S. Commerce Department database, U.S. trade statistics, U.S. census, and U.S. custom rulings. Search for business acronyms & abbreviations, computer terms, currencies, maps of the world, as well as weights & measures. In addition, there is a list of business entities worldwide, country codes, country data, and much more on importing and exporting worldwide by train, ship or airplane.
