New Inductees:


Truitt W. Jefferson
Goldey-Beacom College, 1961

   Mr. Jefferson graduated in 1961 from Goldey-Beacom with an Associate Degree in Accounting. He continued his professional education in various auditing, accounting and tax courses, including training to qualify for government audits. Mr. Jefferson had the privilege of serving in the U.S. Air Force, 1955-1960. His hobbies are golf and farming.

   In 1961, Jefferson began his illustrious career as a public accountant in New Castle County. Mr. Jefferson became a Delaware Certified Public Accountant in 1967. In 1970, he moved back home to Milton, Delaware and became associated with the Rehoboth Beach accounting firm of Jones and Company. In 1972 the firm became Jones, Jefferson and Urian. From 1977 to 1986, he was President of Ballard, Jefferson, Moffitt & Urian, P.A. and from 1990 to the present he serves as President of Jefferson, Urian, Doane & Sterner, P.A. with offices in Georgetown, Dover and Ocean View.

   From 1972-78 Jefferson was a Member of Council of the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants, and was appointed by Governor Castle to serve on the Delaware Board of Accountancy from 1989-1992 and continued under Governor Carper from 1992-1995.

   His positive work ethic and dedication did not go unnoticed, and in 1997, he received the ABC of Delaware, Associate Supplier of the Year Award. He has served his community as Past President of the Milton Lions Club and is a member of the Endeavor Lodge # 17 A.F. and A.M.

   He is married to Virginia and has two stepchildren named Laura and Lisa.

David M. Miller
Goldey-Beacom College, 1978

   Many exemplary Goldey-Beacom students have attended classes while starting their professional careers. David is no exception. He started working at Bumpers and Company, Wilmington, Delaware in 1976 and graduated from the college with an Associate Degree in Accounting in 1978. David's special interest is biking, and he participated in Delaware's Multiple Sclerosis Society's, "Bike to the Bay" from 1996 to 1999.

   Mr. Miller became a licensed CPA in the State of Delaware in 1982. He then started his own business in 1986, David M. Miller, P.A., CPA, Wilmington, Delaware. By 1999, the company was renamed, Miller & Associates, CPA's P.A. and David has been the President from its inception. David became a member of the American Institute of CPA's, and Delaware Society of CPA's, 1982 to present. His dedicated and hardworking outlook on life caused more accolades to follow membership in the Private Companies Practice Section in 1989 to present, and receiving the Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International 1995.

   A very active and committed leader in the community, David is the current Finance and Stewardship Chairperson for St. Catherine of Siena Church. He is the Pageant Auditor on the Miss Delaware Scholarship Pageant Committee. As a member of Newark Rotary Club from 1987, David has held the offices of President, Vice President and club Secretary. In addition, he participates in numerous fund raising activities such as the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive and Wine Tasting Events to benefit Camp Fairlee Manor.

   David is married to Rene Ascione Miller, also a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College, 1984. They have 2 children, whose names are Jessica and Alexandra.

 

Rising Star Award 2000:

Mark A. Oller
Goldey-Beacom College, 1990

   When Mark graduated in 1990, he received the Academic Achievement Awards for Finance Management and Accounting, the William Cleaver Lewis Award for service to the college, and the E.L Davis Service Award for the Alpha Chi Honor Society. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Delaware in 1994. He is the author of an unpublished novel, The Shepherd's Mission.

   From 1990 to present, Mark has worked at Wilmington Trust Company as Audit Manager, Personal Trust Account Manager and Assistant Vice President. With the knowledge and skills he learned at Goldey-Beacom, Mark helped develop, in 1996, a corporate strategic plan to implement a vision, mission, driving force, and working principles which would transform the organization over 3 to 5 years to a team based, customer-driven, sales focused company.

   Mark is the President of Wilmington Jaycees and received the "Fired Up Jaycee" Award, for the period November 1998 to February 1999. Using his excellent leadership abilities, Mark is an MBA Mentor to current students at the University of Delaware. He is also a member of the newly formed MBA Alumni Steering Committee and the Assistant Program Director with Career Development Sessions for students. He remains extremely active in his church, St. Joseph's on the Brandywine.
