Meet Dr. Patricia M. Buhler

Patricia (Pat) M. Buhler holds a doctorate in business administration. With over 28 years of business experience and fourteen years teaching on the college level (both graduate and undergraduate), the topic of business is one she is very familiar with. As an advisor to student organizations, maintaining close relationships with area employers, and managing an active consulting business, current business trends and challenges are explored regularly by Pat.

With over 170 articles in the business field published, Pat has been a contributing editor for Supervision magazine for the past ten years where she authors a bi-monthly column entitled "Managing in the New Millennium". She has published articles for local business magazines (such as the Cecil Business Ledger) and general publications such as Delaware Today. Some of those articles have dealt with professional polish, business competitive intelligence, human resource challenges, and a variety of business topics. In addition, she has addressed several professional associations including the American Marketing Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Society for Human Resource Management.

Consulting with regional businesses for the last 14 years, Pat continues to stay current and aware of the needs of today's organizations. Clients have included a variety of businesses of all sizes and across a wide range of industries. In addition, Pat has published two books, Teach Yourself Management in 24 Hours and Human Resource Management: All the Information You Need to Manage Your Staff and Meet Your Business Objectives. She has authored web site materials and test banks for college level management and organizational behavior textbooks. The McGraw Hill 03/04 Annual Editions Human Resources included Pat's article, "Survivors of Organizational Downsizing" and Powerweb: Understanding Business (also published by McGraw Hill) has chosen to include Pat's article "Building a High-Performance Organization: Ten Tips for Managers".

Pat's teaching philosophy emphasizes the application of concepts (versus rote memorization). The ability to actually apply the concepts being studied is the focus. She embraces the new paradigm in education that states it is the professor's responsibility to teach students how to think - rather than what to think.

Pat's office is located in the Graduate Suite on the ground floor of the Fulmer Center.
