The State of Delaware offers a variety of scholarships to assist high school seniors and college students with defraying the costs of post-secondary education. Two of those scholarship opportunities that should be on all Goldey-Beacom College students’ radars are the Career-Based Scholarship and the Delaware Scholarship Incentive Program (ScIP).
One of the more notable scholarships offered by the Delaware Higher Education Office is the Career-Based Scholarship. This scholarship is available to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a Delaware public or private college, majoring in a field that leads to a career in a high-need area in Delaware.
To be eligible for this exciting scholarship opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
The list of eligible degree programs applicable to GBC students includes accounting, business administration (with concentrations in business analytics, business management, and human resource management), data science and analytics, finance, information technology, healthcare management/administration, and operations management. GBC students enrolled in any of these degree programs can receive this scholarship funding.
Currently, there is no official award amount. Historically, the award amount is $5,000, split evenly between the fall and spring semesters. Scholarship funding is contingent upon approval by Delaware’s General Assembly, which convenes during the spring months. An award amount for this year will be available around July 1.
Career-Based Scholarship funding is non-renewable. Applicants must reapply each year. To receive consideration for funding in additional years, applicants must also maintain enrollment in the eligible degree programs.
Not enrolled in those degree programs, but have financial need? The State of Delaware also offers a Scholarship Incentive Program Grant to assist students who have financial needs. This needs-based scholarship is available to students enrolled full-time at a Delaware institution or at an out-of-state, accredited institution in a program not offered in the State of Delaware.
To be eligible for this scholarship opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:
There are a few restrictions with the ScIP Grant. Minors, non-degree, diploma, certificate, or continuing education programs are ineligible for funding. Independent studies or individualized majors will not qualify for the financing either. A student cannot receive the ScIP grant for more than five years, regardless of whether the study is undergraduate or graduate.
Undergraduate awards range from $0 to $1,000 annually. Graduate awards are also variable up to this amount.
To apply for either scholarship, students must complete the online application and submit the required application materials by May 15, 2026. Students must also complete FAFSA by this date. Contact the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) if you have any questions regarding either of the scholarship funds.
