Wilmington, DE (07/23/2026) — Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) announced that Joan Verbonitz has been elected Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees effective July 1, 2026. A dedicated trustee since 2011 and a two-time Goldey-Beacom College graduate, Verbonitz succeeds Dr. Cornelia “Connie” Winner, who served as Board Chair since 2022.

Throughout her years of service, Verbonitz has been a steadfast advocate for the College’s mission, helping guide its strategic growth while championing opportunities for students and alumni alike.

“I’ve been a proud part of the GBC community for many years – as a student for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, as a trustee, and as a member of the alumni association,” said Verbonitz. “It is my distinct honor and pleasure to step into the role of board chair, following in the footsteps of many impressive predecessors. I am humbled by the opportunity and committed to serving the College well.”

Verbonitz is currently the chief administrative officer for Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) where she is responsible for strategic and tactical oversight of human resources, procurement, external affairs & communications, information technology, and internal compliance.

Verbonitz received the GBC Rising Star award in 2005, and in 2017, was inducted into Distinguished Alumni Gallery. She holds two degrees from Goldey-Beacom: Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management, 1993; and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management, 2004.
