Goldey-Beacom College Congratulates CCMA Inaugural Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellowship Recipient

Wilmington, DE – Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) congratulates Sulakshmi Vaid who was selected to participate in the Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic’s (CCMA) inaugural Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellowship program during the 2022–2023 academic year. The inaugural fellowship cohort includes 13 students from CCMA partner institutions across Maryland, Washington, DC and Delaware.

Through this fellowship, CCMA will provide learning and networking opportunities that emphasize personal, professional and civic growth. Vaid will participate in activities designed to develop leadership skills and to increase understanding of civic and community engagement to better serve as a community leader and collectively create solutions to our region’s most urgent problems.

The award for the 2022–2023 CCMA Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellowship is in addition to Vaid’s current role at GBC as a member of the 2021–2022 cohort of the AmeriCorps VISTA program which was also awarded through CCMA.

Vaid is the liaison for GBC’s participation in “Wowzer’s University”, a program of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware that provides civic engagement opportunities to college students.

Vaid is a Woodbridge, NJ native who recently graduated from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA with a double major in political science and history. She has volunteered a vast amount of time in various civic engagement projects. She is the daughter of immigrant parents from India and Guyana and used her unique understanding of life to serve in different student roles at Cedar Crest such as an inclusion advocate and a civic engagement advocate.

Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic is the largest higher education association dedicated to fulling the public purposes of higher education in the Maryland, DC, and Delaware region, including 37 public, private, 2- and 4-year colleges and universities as members. CCMA supports colleges and universities in the Maryland, Washington, DC, and Delaware region by mobilizing the collective commitment and capacity of higher education and community partners to develop global citizens and co-create just equitable, and sustainable institutions and communities.

Founded in 1886, Goldey-Beacom College has approximately 1,300 students enrolled from 22 states and 65 nations. The College offers 42 degree options in its graduate and undergraduate programs with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, communication & media, human services, English, and all areas of business, including accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, and finance.

The College is accepting students into two new degree programs in fall 2022: B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies; B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics. Both were approved in March 2022 by the Delaware Department of Education.

The College is committed to connecting its graduates with careers in their respective fields. For over a decade, the College has achieved a 90% placement rate for graduates. Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
