Humanities II: Roots of the Modern World explores humankind’s cultural and intellectual roots through an integrated study of the humanities. It traces the secular and scientific thought patterns of contemporary society by discovering and developing these ideas from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century. The course develops the philosophical, religious, historical, literary, and aesthetic themes of the period through selected readings, films, slides, and musical selections.

The course develops the philosophical, religious, historical, literary, and aesthetic themes of the period through selected readings, films, slides, and musical selections.

In Literature-Based Humanities: Monsters in our Midst, students will study short works of imaginative writing to explore how literature can help us understand ourselves and the world around us. We will reconstruct some of the historical and cultural contexts in which our readings were produced and discuss how they might have been shaped by and, in turn, shaped the culture of their time. (This is not a creative writing class.)

A survey of global art history in which students are introduced to art and architecture from Prehistory to 1945. The emphasis of this course is on the content, terminology, and style of the major works of art from around the globe. The students will gain an understanding of the historical periods of art and how the art reflects the culture and society in which it was created.

In this one-week seminar course, we’ll take a chronological look at the Humanities (the creative expression of individual and community values) associated with people historically located in the region in which Goldey-Beacom College is situated. Of course, Goldey-Beacom is in the suburban area of a city now called “Wilmington,” in a state now called “Delaware,” but our region wasn’t always called by these names, nor were its geopolitical boundaries always as they are now. Too, Delaware-area culture has at times been indistinguishable from that of its neighbors in the contemporary states of New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania. For these reasons, our topic of inquiry will be the history, arts, and culture associated with a more fluidly determined geographic region, which we’ll simply call, Here.

This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of Cloud Computing, Infrastructure and Networking, and will explore how the cloud is used in a range of situations, including IT, App Development and Machine Learning. By the end of the course you will know what the cloud is, and how to use it effectively. This course uses the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and was built in concert with the Google Cloud Learning Services team.

This course covers the use of the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2019 application which students are likely to encounter in their business careers. This course provides a thorough and complete coverage for the learning objectives for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) PowerPoint 2019 Exam. Students will learn MS PowerPoint by using real world examples and labs. This course utilizes SAM 2019 and is applicable to the SAM 2019 License & Certification Program.

Whether you’re using a Mac or a PC, operating systems are a key part of how humans interface with technology. Therefore, understanding how they work is vital to understanding how computers power our world. This course will teach you the fundamentals of Operating System structure, function, and architecture, and prepare you to administer both Windows and Linux-based systems.
