During Summer 2016, the Technology and Tutoring Services were relocated to the newly renovated Hirons Library and Learning Center (HLLC) which is located in the Joseph West Jones Center.

Current students, faculty, and staff may access our Research Guides using the Library tab in Campus Web; this allows users to search all 49 of our databases at one time. These databases contain approximately 560,000 books and journals, electronically and in print. Users can also search databases individually.

Research Help

Through Campus Web, current students, faculty, and staff can access our Lightning Guides, which have useful tips and guidance to information about research topics. If you have a reference question, please email our Reference Desk or call the Circulation Desk at (302) 225-6247.


The Hirons Library is dedicated to supporting and enriching the College curricula through the provision of print and non-print materials to students and faculty and to furthering the cause of lifelong education through instruction in the effective use of library resources. J. Wilbur Hirons Library is named in honor of a former President of Beacom College, who oversaw the College during the pivotal formative years of 1935-1951.

Computing Services

The Hirons Library and Learning Center (HLLC) is the computing resource of Goldey-Beacom College. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) staff maintains and develops the computing facilities to meet the needs of the students at the College and provides services and support for the entire College community.

Current GBC students are welcome to use the facilities any time during posted hours. The laboratory is a workplace and guidelines have been established to safeguard the equipment and environment to allow students to do their best and most efficient work.

The College does not require students to purchase a computer; however, if purchasing a new laptop, consider the following minimum recommended specifications:

  • Operating System: At least Windows 7 or 10
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Processor: Intel Core i5
  • Networking: Integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless
  • Anti-virus/anti-malware protection

Goldey-Beacom College has an arrangement with Dell and GovConnection for special deals for our students, faculty and staff. We provide this link as a service and do not endorse their products or services.

Graphics Facilities

A Canon CanoScan LiDE 600F scanner is located in the HLLC and can be used for scanning documents and images into Windows, Microsoft Office, PDF, etc.

  • Hours: Monday - Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Wireless Network Access: Wireless configuration information is found by selecting 'GBC Wireless Network' from the left menu of the Technology tab on Campus Web.
  • Wireless Configuration Issues: Students encountering problems configuring wireless can obtain assistance from a Student Tech Assistant in the Hirons Library and Learning Center or request an appointment by completing the online wireless appointment request form.
  • Gaming Device: Appointments are needed to configure a gaming or streaming device. Nintendo Wii gaming systems and Google Chromecast devices are currently not compatible with our wireless network.
