How does financial aid help me afford a college degree?

Financial aid at Goldey-Beacom College plays a crucial role in helping you achieve your goal of obtaining an affordable college degree. We offer various payment plans for college, including financial aid, scholarships and grants, and federal student loans to help reduce the overall cost of your education. 

What options does Goldey-Beacom College offer for payment plans for college?

Goldey-Beacom College offers several payment options, including federal student loans, payment plans, college grants and scholarships, to make your college degree more affordable. We are committed to helping you find the best financial aid package to support your educational journey.

How do I apply for financial aid for an affordable college degree?

To make your college degree more affordable, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for federal aid, including grants and loans. Our Financial Aid Office can assist you in exploring scholarships and other funding opportunities.

Can I combine scholarships and grants to make my degree more affordable?

Yes, you can combine scholarships and grants to reduce the cost of your affordable college degree at Goldey-Beacom College. Our Financial Aid Office will work with you to create a personalized financial aid package to help cover tuition and other expenses. 

What is my federal financial aid eligibility as a graduate student?

A completed FAFSA must be on file with the Financial Aid Office to be eligible for federal aid at the graduate level. Students can complete the FAFSA form at www.studentaid.gov. Graduate students are eligible for Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans. The aggregate limit for annual borrowing at the graduate level is $20,500. Graduate students must be enrolled at least half-time to receive an unsubsidized loan.

Can I receive a Pell Grant in the summer session?

In certain situations, an eligible student can receive up to 150% of their scheduled Pell Grant award for an award year during the summer session. Some students may be required to enroll at least half-time to receive a Pell Grant in the summer session. To be eligible for a Pell Grant in the summer session, a student will need to:

  1. Completed and submitted a 2024-25 and 2025-26 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  2. Retain eligibility for a Pell Grant in the summer session.
  3. Meeting satisfactory standards of academic progress.
  4. Enrolled in summer session courses.

I plan on using federal direct student loans. What do I need to complete?

Federal aid recipients planning to use federal direct student loans must complete Entrance Counseling and the Master Promissory Note at www.studentaid.gov.

Do I need to submit a new FAFSA each year?

Yes. Returning students who plan on using federal aid must submit a new FAFSA each year to be considered for federal aid. You may renew your FAFSA on studentaid.gov beginning on October 1 each year. The 2025-26 FAFSA becomes available in December 2023. The Financial Aid Office recommends completing your FAFSA early to avoid processing delays.

What is the FA-DDX Tool?

FAFSA contributors can have their IRS data automatically imported into the FAFSA after consenting to the FA-DDX tool. The Financial Aid Office strongly encourages all students and contributors to use this tool.

My family’s financial information has changed since the last time we filed taxes. What now?

If your family’s financial circumstances have changed, you may appeal your financial aid decision by emailing [email protected] or calling 302-225-6264. You may need to submit additional documents to process an appeal decision. Please contact the Financial Aid office to discuss your options for payment plans for college.

What is Exit Counseling and when do I need to complete it?

If you are a federal direct loan borrower, you must complete Exit Counseling at www.studentaid.gov. Exit Counseling is required for all federal direct loan borrowers when they graduate, or their enrollment is less than half-time. Exit Counseling provides much information regarding your direct loans, responsibilities, and rights as a borrower. In addition, official college records, such as your academic transcript, may be released once you complete Exit Counseling.

I was notified by the Financial Aid Office I was selected for verification. What now?

The federal government selects FAFSAs at random for verification. When selected for verification, you may be requested to provide additional information to the Financial Aid Office to ensure the information provided on your FAFSA is complete and correct. Examples of verification documentation may include but are not limited to, tax returns for parents and the student, verification worksheets, and statements of non-filing for non-tax filers.

Can I use a payment plan to pay my college expenses?

Goldey-Beacom College offers two payment plans to assist you in paying for tuition, fees, and residence hall charges. The first is the Semester Payment Plan. This plan allows you to divide the costs due into equal monthly installments per semester. The second option is the Annual Payment Plan. This payment plan for college will enable you to split the costs due for the entire year into nine monthly installments (up to 12 if you include summer courses in the plan).

Is there a fee for the installment payment plan?

There are no fees associated with the College’s installment payment plans. Installment payment plans at Goldey-Beacom are an affordable way to finance your education!

What are acceptable payment methods?

You can pay with check, cash, money order, cashier’s check, traveler’s check, wire, credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover/NOVUS, or American Express) or E-check (bank account information). Payments are accepted in person, through the mail, and online via Campus Web. You can also wire payment to our bank account, or place non-cash payments in the drop box any time the Fulmer Center is open.

I have outside scholarships. Can I deduct them from my balance I owe to the College?

Absolutely! You can deduct outside scholarships from your tuition balance. To do so, you will need to provide the Business Office with a copy of the scholarship letter.

What is the SAM License & Certification Program?

Goldey-Beacom College provides the SAM License and Certification Program*.  SAM is an interactive online learning environment that helps students master Microsoft Office software concepts essential to academic and career success.  This Program provides students with access to SAM and one Microsoft Office certification exam voucher. This Program is also financially beneficial to students because it enables them to utilize SAM at a reduced rate.

This Program provides an effective learning experience for students as it eliminates the need for them to purchase SAM access at a higher cost and prevents them from purchasing incorrect versions or expired licenses.  It ensures that students have the required access they need beginning with the first day of class.  Learn more about SAM by contacting the instructor of the course which uses SAM (ITG 148, ITG 149, ITG 325, IT 253 and IT 349).

* Notes:

  • Participation in the SAM program is mandatory for students enrolled in any of the following courses: ITG 148, ITG 149, ITG 325, IT 253, and IT 349.
  • Each course requires a SAM license and therefore will be billed per course.
  • Each enrolled student will be provided one voucher to take the Microsoft certification test for the course at no charge.  Should the student need to retake the test, a charge of $45 may apply.
  • Once a student activates the SAM license, the activation cannot be reversed and the charge of $90 will apply.
  • The SAM license is not transferable and may not be sold/resold to other students.

When can I anticipate a refund from the credit on my account?

Goldey-Beacom College understands the importance of authorizing timely financial aid disbursements. Students can typically anticipate a financial aid disbursement approximately three to four weeks into the semester. After transferring financial aid to your account in the Business Office, the Business Office will process refund checks from credit balances within 14 days. Students may pick up their refund check or mail it to their mailing address on file with the College. Questions regarding the refund process can go to the Business Office. 

Why did the Financial Aid Office remove my federal student loan?

There are a variety of reasons as to why the Financial Aid Office removed your federal student loan. Students who fail to complete entrance counseling or the master promissory may not have a federal student loan. Students who fail to complete verification are ineligible for federal student loans. Changes in a student’s eligibility for federal student aid may also lose their federal student loan.

How long is my Master Promissory Note good for?

The Master Promissory Note (MPN) is a legal document in which you promise to repay your loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the U.S. Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s).

You may receive more than one loan under an MPN over a period of up to 10 years to pay for your or your child’s educational costs, as long as the school is authorized to use the MPN in this way and chooses to do so.

Students who do not have a federal student loan disbursement within one year of completing an MPN may need to complete another MPN before receiving a new federal student loan.

Can I receive a denial notice for a student loan if I have poor credit?

Students may receive direct loans without a review of their credit score. Private loans and PLUS Loans (parent and graduate) require a credit check before receiving an approval.

Can international students receive financial aid at Goldey-Beacom College?

Undergraduate international students may qualify for merit-based scholarships at the time of their acceptance. Student athletes at the undergraduate or graduate level may qualify for scholarship and grant assistance.

Does Goldey-Beacom College offer any special scholarships for international students?

Yes. Qualified undergraduate international students may be eligible for a merit-based scholarship. Student athletes may also receive scholarship and grant assistance.

How can I find out if I’m eligible for financial aid as an international student at Goldey-Beacom College?

Recently accepted students may contact their admissions representative to discuss scholarship opportunities. Student athletes may talk to their coach about athletic aid opportunities.

Are there financial aid or payment plans for college available for adult learners?

Yes. The College offers a variety of payment plan options for adult learners. There are semester-based payment plans and nine-month installment plans for students enrolling for the entire academic year. Students may also receive federal financial aid assistance at a part-time enrollment status.
